Training Tip of the Day 18-24 Overcorrecting.

Training Tip of the Day 18-24 Overcorrecting. This training tip can be helpful for both teachers and students, and can apply to many other topics besides firearms and empty hand self-defense. Many well intentioned people overcorrect others entirely too much. This is counterproductive for a variety of reasons. First, there is only a certain amount a student can focus on in the first place. If a teacher is constantly correcting multiple aspects of a skill—grip, stance, posture, etc. all at the same time, the student is likely to become overwhelmed. Even worse, they may quit practicing as a result because they think that it is not for them. Furthermore, it takes a lot of the fun out of the training when a teacher is constantly correcting. Make sure everything being done is safe, then work on one or two essential skills at a time. Trust that in the long run improvements are inevitable.
