Understanding sight alignment is critical to excellent marksmanship. In essence, your front sights and rear sights should be exactly the same height. This will ensure the shot will not miss the target either too high or too low. Also, there should be equal space between the front sight and both of the rear sights. This will ensure the shot will not miss to the left or to the right. The idea is for the sights to be perfectly aligned at the moment the shot breaks.
